As people age, their skin loses elasticity due to the breakdown of collagen. This causes wrinkles and deep lines within the skin's surface and can worsen with excessive sun exposure and environmental toxins. Wrinkles can be prevented or removed through skin restoration treatments. These treatments are available for at-home use and through a licensed dermatologist.

Step 1

Drink eight to 10 glasses of water per day to keep skin hydrated, recommends KidsHealth.org. Skin that is properly hydrated stays healthier and younger looking since the water flushes out toxins as well as adding moisture.

Step 2

Apply a prescription retinoid cream to your face daily. These creams are derived from vitamin A and work by penetrating the skin layers to reduce wrinkles and also eliminate age spots. Retinoid creams are only available through prescription from your dermatologist.

Step 3

Opt for microdermabrasion or chemical peels at your dermatologist's office. These procedures slough off the topmost layers of damaged skin, slowly revealing new fresh skin underneath. According to the Mayo Clinic, these procedures are done in the office and require a short recovery period.

Step 4

Wash your face daily with a gentle exfoliating wash to remove trapped dirt and dead skin cells. Follow washing with a light moisturizer to keep the skin from drying out. According to the Mayo Clinic, moisturizers that claim to treat wrinkles should be used with caution as the FDA, or Food and Drug Administration, does not regulate cosmetic products.

Step 5

Apply sunscreen to your skin when going outdoors. This should be done all year round since the sun's UV rays stay strong no matter the weather. SPF 15 and higher is ideal for protecting the skin from further damage and keeping it moisturized in the drying sun.

Step 6

Opt for dermal filler at your local dermatology office. Dermal fillers are injections that introduce collagen or other ingredients to the skin to plump out wrinkles and prompt the skin to produce collagen naturally. Injections require maintenance treatments to maintain desired effects.
