Houston, located in Harris County, Texas, is the largest city in the state, and offers visitors an abundance of recreation, dining and entertainment opportunities and visitor attractions. Recreation
Houston offers visitors many parks to explore. The famous Hermann Park is located nearby downtown Houston and is one of the most visited parks in the area. The park contains the Houston Zoo, the Houston Museum of Natural Science, the Herman Park Golf Course and the Miller Outdoor Theater, all of which are the most popular attractions in the area.
Tranquility Park, located in the downtown district of Houston, honors the first landing on the moon in 1969. The park is two city blocks long and features a variety of pathways, fountains and waterways. Guests are able to read the first words that Neil Armstrong transmitted from the moon, which is available in 15 different languages.
Sports
Houston supports a variety of sporting events that include the NFL, Major League Baseball, the NBA and the American Hockey League. Visitors are able to attend a variety of sport games at the Minute Maid Park and the Toyota Center. Houston was also one of the first cities to build a domed stadium. Guests can visit the Reliant Stadium that features a retractable roof.
Visitor Attractions
Houston is home to Space Center Houston, the official visitor's site of the Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center. Space Center Houston allows visitors to experience a space shuttle simulator and a variety of moon rock interactive exhibits.
Other popular tourist attractions in Houston include the Galleria and the Downtown Aquarium. The Galleria is the largest shopping mall in Texas and offers guests more than 375 stores. Houston's Downtown Aquarium is a 500,000-gallon underwater wonderland that features more than 200 species of aquatic life.
Local Food
Houston is well-known for its variety of American fare and seafood cuisines. Fresh seafood restaurants can be found within the city that offer dishes such as oysters, sushi, salmon and trout.
Steakhouses are also found throughout the city offering some of the best cuts of meat in the region. Filet mignon, ribeye, New York strip and prime rib are just some of the many cuts of meat found in the restaurants.
Arts and Theater
The Theater District is located in downtown Houston and offers visitors nine major performing arts centers and six performance halls. Many different genres of the performing arts can be found that include ballet, opera, theater, art and music. The city also offers guests opportunities to enjoy Broadway acts and popular concerts.
