Swollen blood vessels can cause a protrusion of the mucous membranes in the lower rectum or anus. This condition is known as hemorrhoids, or piles. According to Dr. Gary Null, internal hemorrhoids may result in pain and bleeding with bowel movements. External hemorrhoids may cause discomfort, but rarely cause bleeding. There are various causes for the condition, but fortunately, homeopathic remedies may offer relief. Remedies are chosen based on specific symptoms of both the condition and other physical and emotional factors.

Nux Vomica

This may be one of the primary single remedies for hemorrhoids when a burning pain is accompanied by constipation. If the rectum feels constricted by the hemorrhoid, with burning and stinging, nux vomica may well be the remedy of choice. This is especially so in the case of bruise-like pain felt in the small of the back. The sensitivity of the area affected may be so severe that even the softest toilet tissue can be unbearable. Also, give nux vomica a try if itching in the anus keeps you awake at night. Generally, this remedy may be taken every half hour to four hours, until symptoms improve. When improvement is seen, frequency of administration should be reduced to once or twice daily.

Avenoc

Boiron is a homeopathic pharmaceutical supplier that produces Avenoc, a combination remedy for hemorrhoid sufferers. Tablets, suppositories and an ointment form are available. Very low potencies of Aesculus, Hamamelis virginiana, Lachesis, and nux vomica are found in the Avenoc tablets. The suppositories contain Aesculus and Hamamelis like the tablets, but they also contain Collinsonia canadensis. The ointment is the same formulation as the suppositories, only a petrolatum base serves as the inactive ingredient. These remedies can be used for the itching, burning and soreness that accompany hemorrhoids. Tablets can be taken every two hours, not to exceed six times daily. Suppositories should only be used once or twice daily. Ointment may be applied externally up to four times daily.

King Bio Hemorrhoid Relief

This combination remedy manufactured by King Bio is an oral spray. The individual remedies found in the combination vary in range of potencies. Specific remedies include Aesculus, Aloe socotrina, Collinsonia canadensis, Hamamelis virginiana, Muriaticum acidum, nux vomica, Paeonia, Ratanhia, Sepia and sulphur. They are mixed in pure water, with no alcohol present in the combination. According to author Dr. Ellen Feingold, this remedy should be used when pain and itching are present along with burning, bleeding and oozing at the site of the protrusion. Three pump sprays should be administered under the tongue four to six times daily until symptoms abate.
