Dark circles under your eyes can be a normal sign of aging, or they could be indicative of allergies, too much sun exposure or nasal congestion, according to MayoClinic.com. You can avoid dark circles by getting more sleep, using extra pillows at night to promote sinus draining or trying one of several herbal remedies. MayoClinic.com states that most dark circles can be treated quickly and easily with inexpensive home remedies.

Nutmeg

The AyurvedicCure.com website suggests using nutmeg to cool the skin around your eyes and reduce the appearance of dark under-eye circles. Make a paste using ground nutmeg mixed with a small amount of cold milk. Apply the paste all around your eyes, even on your eyelids. The Pioneer Thinking website suggests leaving the nutmeg and milk combination on your eyes overnight while you sleep to achieve maximum benefits.

Mint

To reduce puffy, dark circles under your eyes, the Natural Home Remedies website suggests using mint topically and internally. To treat dark circles from the outside, crush fresh mint leaves and apply them to the area around your eyes, leaving the leaves in place for 20 minutes before rinsing. You can also use mint to treat dark circles by making an herbal drink. To a glass of tomato juice, add a few crushed mint leaves, a squeeze of lemon juice and a pinch of salt. Drinking this mixture will help to get rid of dark under-eye circles.

Turmeric

Turmeric is a pungent spice used in preparing many ethnic dishes. You can use turmeric to treat dark circles as well, according to the Natural Home Remedies site. Combine ground turmeric with enough pineapple juice to form a paste, then apply the paste around your eyes. Using chilled pineapple juice will provide an extra cooling effect for your eyes.

Tea Bags

The Pioneer Thinking website states that the alkaloids in tea bags can help to reduce dark circles under your eyes. After making tea, place your used tea bags in the refrigerator until the tea bags are cool. When you have two cool tea bags, rest one on each of your closed eyes for several minutes to reduce dark circles and puffiness.

Rose Water

Rose water is made from the oil taken from fresh rose blooms. You can find rose water at beauty stores and ethnic markets. To treat dark circles, the Ayurvedic Cure site suggests soaking two cotton balls in rose water, then placing one cotton ball over each closed eye. Relax, leaving the cotton balls in place, for five to 10 minutes before removing.
