Atlantic City, New Jersey, has a multitude of healthy, fun and educational things to offer both adults and children. Families can stroll along the boardwalk, take in all the marine life at the aquarium, be drawn into the art and culture at the local art center or museum and even take a helicopter ride.
Aquarium
Children will enjoy everything the Atlantic City Aquarium has to offer. There's plenty to do and see, including a touch tank where you can touch sea urchins and even sharks. Stop by the 25,000 gallon tank and gaze at all the marine life and even take part in the live diver show, where an aquarium employee will swim through the tank and talk to the audience through special diving equipment.
Walking and Biking
At just over four miles long, the Atlantic City boardwalk is a great place to take a leisure stroll or an early morning bicycle ride with the family. Stroll up and down the boardwalk for some great exercise while you take in the sights.
Outdoor Fun
The entire family will enjoy what the Steel Pier has to offer. You can stroll along the pier and take in the sights and sounds, in addition to taking part in all that the pier has to offer. Take your chances at a game, ride a rollercoaster or delight yourself in some of the food. You can even take the kids up for a helicopter ride.
Museums
Parents and children can immerse themselves in art and culture at the Atlantic City Art Center. Here guests view the many pieces of art, paintings and sculptures from both national and regional artists. Or they can stop in at the Atlantic City Historical Museum and learn about the city's history; see the many artifacts, costumes, posters, photographs and Miss America memorabilia. For a little fun and a few laughs, a visit to the Ripley's Believe It or Not Museum, located right on the boardwalk, is in order.
Other Educational Venues
For a brief history lesson, bring the family to the New Jersey Korean War Veterans Memorial and honor those who served during the war. Learn about America's involvement in the war and what was accomplished.
Also be sure to visit the Marine Mammal Stranding Center and Museum, where you can learn about how marine animals are rescued and taken care of. Located in Brigantine, the standing center and museum is just minutes away from Atlantic City. The visit will be well worth it, as you learn about how the center responds to over 3,600 calls for stranded whales, dolphins, seals and sea turtles that wash ashore along New Jersey beaches.
If your children are book lovers, bring them to the Atlantic City Public Library where they can read until their heart's content. The library also has special events and programs throughout the year, so be sure to see what's on their schedule.
