Uneven skin tone may be caused by a health problem or environmental factors. While there are an abundance of commercially available skin care products, sometimes it is cost-effective, beneficial and preferable to make your own. Proper care of your skin can alleviate the symptoms of uneven skin tone, but will not treat the underlying causes. Speak to a dermatologist to evaluate your condition and find the right treatment for you.
Exfoliate
Exfoliation removes dead skin cells from your face, reducing the appearance of uneven skin tone. Exfoliation also removes bacteria, microorganisms and environmental build-up from personal care products, all of which may discolor skin. Mix sugar and water together to form a paste. Gently scrub your face using the paste. The sharp granules of the sugar slough dead skin away, according to "The Green Beauty Guide." Avoid scrubbing too hard and avoid using a sugar scrub if you have extremely dry skin. These conditions can make an exfoliating sugar scrub painful and damaging. For a soothing, less harsh exfoliating experience, consider using oatmeal. Mix cooked oatmeal together with an equal part honey and apply to your face. Honey, a natural antibacterial, reduces bacteria that may be causing blemishes.
Tone
Remove the seeds from a papaya fruit and peel a kiwi fruit. Cut the fruits in half and mix them together in a blender until the fruits have a consistency of a thick paste. Layer the fruit paste on your face and allow it to sit for up to 20 minutes before rinsing your skin with cool water. This remedy, according to "Ayurvedic Beauty Care," reduces the sight of blemishes and alleviates the appearance of red, irritated skin. The mixture can be used daily and also makes a tasty treat while tending to your skin. Citric acid in any form, whether from lemon, lime, mango or orange, makes a viable toner for your skin. Toners shrink the pores, minimizing their appearance, and thus giving your skin tone a more even overall appearance.
Moisturize
Dry, scaly areas causing uneven skin tone might benefit from a moisturizer. If you have dry skin all-over, apply the home remedies as a mask. If you have combination skin, apply the homemade skin-tone remedies to one or two spots. Yogurt is cooling and soothing to the skin, and serves as a heavy moisturizer. It also contains a number of beneficial bacteria that may help with skin tone imbalances, as stated by "Naturally Skinsational." Mix yogurt with honey for a heavy-duty antimicrobial moisturizer or with rosewater for added anti-inflammatory properties, according to "Pure Skin: Organic Beauty Basics." Leave the moisturizer on your skin's dry spots for five to 10 minutes before washing with a gentle cleanser.
