Beginning in your 20s, the reflection in your mirror begins looking different than it did in high school and college. Crow's feet, which start as fine lines around the eyes and above the cheeks, start to show, followed by deep lines between your eye brows. Luckily, there are several steps to reduce eye wrinkles and prevent unnecessary wrinkles in your future.

Stop Tanning

Ultraviolet rays are the primary culprit of aging because they break down collagen in your skin, causing fine lines and wrinkles, discoloration and a leathery appearance.
According to Medill Reports Chicago, a study in "Archives of Dermatology" showed that tanners are more worried about wrinkles than getting skin cancer. If aging is a main concern, the most damage occurs in the sun or tanning bed. Even if you have been tanning all your life, stopping now will reduce the amount of wrinkles you have in the future.
If you will be in the sun for prolonged periods of time, apply an SPF of at least 30 and wear a large billed hat.

Facial Expression Lines

Remember being a kid and your mom saying, "Keep making that face and it will stay that way." She wasn't completely lying. Since your skin no longer bounces back due to the lack of elasticity from aging, the lines from frequently used facial expressions begin to etch into your face like wrinkles on fabric.
According to the American Academy of Dermatology, having "soft tissue dermal fillers such as collagen or fat" injected into the skin can reduce the lines that already exist from facial expressions.

Wear Sunglasses

Not only do sunglasses protect your eyes from harmful ultraviolet rays, but they also keep you from squinting on bright days. Since skin loses elasticity, squinting causes the skin to crease around the eyes.

Wear Glasses or Contacts

Similar to not wearing sunglasses, not wearing vision correcting lenses when your vision is less than perfect will cause fine lines and wrinkles because of squinting.

Stop Smoking

According to Healthy Skin Portal, smoking affects the blood supply to the skin and inhibits collagen production, causing wrinkles. Smoking also causes facial expression lines, since you're regularly puckering your lips creating fine lines and creases in your skin.

See a Dermatologist

Make an appointment with a dermatologist to see what options are available to reduce the wrinkles around your eyes. In many cases, a dermatologist will suggest dermabrasion, a chemical peel, or a topical retinoid to reduce fine lines.
