If you would like to lose weight without boring routines and strict diets, small adjustments to your day might be all you need. Weight loss is achieved through burning more calories than you consume, and you must burn 3,500 calories more than usual to lose one pound of body fat, according to the website FamilyDoctor. The following activities show calories burned based on an average 155-pound person.

Play Frisbee

Playing Frisbee with your kids, spouse, or co-workers is a way to relieve some stress and burn a few extra calories. In 30 minutes of chasing a Frisbee, you can burn an average of 112 calories. Consider the net calories burned compared with that time spent sitting on the couch. According to Harvard Medical School, sitting for 30 minutes burns 42 calories.

Beach Volleyball

Want an even better burn in 30 minutes? Hit the beach with some friends and play volleyball. Harvard Medical School researchers say that you will burn 275 calories more playing volleyball than lying in the sand, which burns about 25 calories.

Do Yard Work

Planting shrubs or raking leaves burns 149 calories in just half an hour. Mowing the lawn with a power lawn mower can burn 167 calories, and shoveling snow can burn 223 calories in only 30 minutes. Spend one hour per day doing an outdoor chore and you could lose 1 to 2 pounds per month, according to Harvard Medical School.

House Cleaning

Cleaning the house can not only make your house look better, but make you look better as well. According to the Health Discovery online calorie calculator, general housecleaning can burn 260 calories per hour, and do not be surprised if you are at it for longer than that.

Walk the Course

If you are a golfer and like to ride the cart around you are missing out on an extra 150 calories burned per hour, according to Harvard researchers. Spend all day on the golf course walking and carrying your own bag and those calories will really add up. Skip the cart in one game of golf per week and the difference could help you lose an extra pound of fat per month.

Go Rock Climbing

Rock climbing may not be for everyone, but if you are the adventurous type this activity will help you burn a lot of calories. In just one hour of rock climbing you can burn 810 calories, according to Harvard researchers. And, that is just on the way up. Rappel your way to the bottom and burn another 300 calories in 30 minutes.

Lose the Drinks

Physical activities are not the only creative ways to lose weight. Simply cutting out one glass of soda, juice or alcoholic beverage per day can help you lose weight. A cup of cola can have 136 calories, 12 ounces of beer may be around 150 calories and a cup of cranberry juice has around 135 calories, according to Diet Bites, a website specializing in weight loss tools and information. Replace one drink per day with water and you could lose 12 pounds per year, with no change in activity level.
