The area of Graham, Washington, provides many activities for people of all ages. Graham is located in Pierce County. This medium-sized community of 9,000 is placed in the middle of a nature lover's haven. Individuals visiting the area will have the opportunity to partake in festivals, museums, galleries, camping, hiking, birdwatching and many other activities.
Camping
Enjoy the outdoors by camping in one of the campgrounds near Graham. Camp Lakeview, Rainier View Adult RV Park and Meridian Terrace provide areas for camping with either an RV or a tent. Each campground is modern with both water and electricity.
Hike the areas posted within each park to enjoy the true beauty of the area. Take along a pair of binoculars and enjoy birdwatching or view many of the wild animals in the vicinity.
State Parks
Save the money on dining and enjoy a cheap alternative by having a picnic at one of the state parks near Graham. There are several to choose from, including Dash Point State Park, Saltwater, West Hylebos State Park, Tolmie State Park, Flaming Geyser State Park, Kopachuck State Park and Eagle Island Stat Marine Park. Each park provides areas for picnicking and grilling. Be sure to take some outdoor games for the kids to play.
Rock Hunting
Rock hunting or rock hounding is a hobby that can turn into an obsession. Graham and the surrounding area have a plethora of fossils, agates and crystals. Panning the local rivers and streams for gold can produce small gold flakes along with larger gold nuggets. Walking the river beds and streams looking for rocks will provide an activity along with exercise and a day out enjoying nature. Bring along a book on rocks if new to rock hunting.
Fireworks
Travel a short distance from Graham to Seattle and enjoy fireworks over Lake Union. Watching the fireworks over the water on the Fourth of July is mystifying. The reflection in the water provides double the fun. Bring a lawn chair and a small picnic basket full of goodies to eat while waiting for the show.
Make a day of it at Lake Union by bringing along a canoe or kayak. Enjoy boating on the lake during the day before kicking back for a relaxing evening watching the fireworks.

Just 8 miles from Graham is Puyallup. The 2010 Puyallup Fair will be held Sept. 10 through Sept. 26. The Pro Rodeo will be in session from Sept. 10 through Sept. 12. Bring along a picnic lunch to cut down on the expenses for the day. Buy a full-day pass to save money instead of paying for each ride the kids would like to take.
