As people age, their skin starts to sag and wrinkle. This is a normal response to collagen breakdown in the skin caused by factors such as sun exposure, lifestyle and environmental toxins. The eyes are most affected by collagen breakdown, forming bags and what is referred to as "crow's feet" around the eye. Increasing collagen production within the skin can help eliminate these problems and maintain the skin's natural moisture balance and overall health.
Step 1
Apply an over-the-counter collagen-based filler. These products contain collagen and elastin to coax your skin into producing its own collagen with repeated use (see Resources). Apply the filler as directed on the packaging.
Step 2
Take a vitamin C supplement daily, or boost your intake of citrus fruits such as oranges, grapefruit and limes, all good sources of vitamin C. According to Smart Skincare, vitamin C is essential for collagen production in the skin, including under the eyes. Proper vitamin C consumption helps combat eye bags and wrinkles by providing antioxidants needed to reverse sun damage and aging skin.
Step 3
Apply an organic copper peptide serum to the skin surrounding the eyes once per day. Copper peptides are minerals that induce wound healing, wrinkle repair and skin firming. Inorganic forms should be avoided since they are potentially toxic; however, organic forms are ideal for skin care as they pose less risk.
Step 4
Increase intake of phytoestrogens found in soy, legumes and green leafy vegetables. Hormone levels decline with age, which inhibits the formation of collagen fibers. Keeping hormones balanced will help stabilize collagen formation.
