Boston's historical connections, walkable downtown core and interesting attractions make it a great destination when traveling with kids. With everything this city in Massachusetts has to offer, it's not surprising that 18 million people visit Boston each year.
Sea Adventures
Board the high-speed catamaran, "Voyager III," at Central Wharf near the New England Aquarium for some guaranteed whale-watching fun. If for any reason you don't see any whales, you will receive a voucher for another trip.
Your kids will love the sea dragons and other aquatic species at the New England Aquarium. Revere Beach is a popular destination for families looking for swimming and sunning. Forget about beach traffic. Revere Beach and other seaside destinations are accessible by public transportation.
Walking Tours
Chart your Freedom Trail walking course by using one of the many guidebooks available throughout Boston or simply follow the red brick road. Boston by Little Feet is a guided tour specifically tailored for children ages 6 to 12.
Quack at pedestrians--who might just quack back--as you ride the Boston Duck Tour. You'll be viewing the city by land and water aboard a World War II amphibious landing vehicle.
Parks and Playgrounds
The Esplanade stretches 3 miles along the Charles River and offers miles of walkway and bike paths, a wading pool and several playgrounds where you and your family can spend an enjoyable afternoon. Take the little ones to the spray pond at Boston Common.
The waterfront area has some great parks as well including Christopher Columbus Park and the Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Greenway. The latter is home to Rings Fountain and an interactive sculpture entitled Harbor Fog where kids can beat the summer heat.
Musuems
Your kids can peek inside a beehive at the Museum of Science. At the Children's Museum of Boston, there's plenty to do and to learn; from blowing bubbles to learning how to say hello in another language. The Children's Museum offers a three-story interactive climbing feature that will keep your children entertained.
The Museum of Fine Arts, located in the Fenway cultural district, offers the Family Art Cart as a fun and educational way to explore the galleries.
Stage and Interactive Attractions
If the weather is not cooperating, why not visit Limelight Stage and Studios. Here, you and your children can sing karaoke-style in front of an audience or rent a studio room.
Urban Interactive offers what it calls "tourism adventures" in the style of the "Amazing Race."
Test your physical and mental abilities by attending TOMB, an interactive adventure experience, at 5 Wits Boston. This interactive show is recommended for children 7 and older.
