The Paradoxical Journey
When it comes to weight loss, many of us--most notably women--are putting the cart before the horse. As such, we have come to believe we have to lose weight to feel good about ourselves. Similarly, we believe we have to lose weight to get healthy. These beliefs are the exact opposite of the truth. The fact of the matter is we have to learn how to feel good about ourselves first in order to take better care of ourselves. When you feel good, you tend to do well; but when you feel bad, what happens?
Food Is the Solution
The reality is that food isn't your problem; it's your solution. That's right, the paradoxical mystery continues as we realize we use food as a way of solving our problems. As we do so, the real problems get "buried" with each and every bite, deeper and deeper into the core of our being until we lose sight of the real problems in the first place. At this point, we become fixated on the symptoms of our problems and frantically try to change how we eat. But this deprives us of the one thing that has worked for us in dealing with the variety of life's adversities--food. Unfortunately, our problems still exit, yet we have no clue what they really are anymore or how to deal with them other than stuffing them down, or numbing them out, with food.
The Real Problem
If you really want to solve these problems, then you're going to have to dig a little deeper. Once you uncover what the real problems are, then you'll have to learn how to resolve them with something other than food. If you just take food away and fail to implement other problem-solving techniques, you'll find it incredibly hard, if not impossible, to finally release all those issues once and for all.
Focus on What You Need to Gain
The secret is to focus on what you need to gain, rather than what you need to lose. What do you need to give yourself? What is it that you feel you are missing in your life? What does food do for you? What does food fulfill? Once you know the answers to these kinds of questions, you'll be able to move forward towards a real resolution to your weight issues.
It's Not About You on a Diet--It's about You!
The bottom line is weight loss is not about you going on another diet. It's about you learning how to feel good about yourself and your life from the inside out instead of the outside in.
