According to the American Academy of Dermatology, hair grows about one-half inch every month. During the aging process the rate of growth slows. Hair shedding has a normal cycle of about 50 to 100 hairs per day. In 2009, Americans spent approximately $176 million on products to prevent hair loss. Natural hair growth remedies are also available and range from vitamins to animal tissues.

Take Your Vitamins

Three vitamins in particular have demonstrated improvement of the strength and growth of hair. Vitamin B complex is vital for hair growth and should be combined with supplemental vitamins B3, B5, and B6 for optimal results. Vitamin C is helpful in improving hair growth by increasing circulation to the scalp and assisting in the antioxidant action in hair follicles. Vitamin E also improves circulation to the scalp encouraging the health and growth of hair.

Eat Your Fruits and Vegetables

A diet high in fruits and vegetables encourages hair growth. Fruits and vegetables are rich in flavonoids that give protection to hair follicles. Green leafy vegetables are great mineral sources that are necessary for hair growth. Dried fruits and cherry juice are also good sources of iron needed for healthy hair growth.

Improve Immunity

Zinc and raw thymus glandular both enhance immune function which results in the stimulation of hair growth. Foods containing the highest milligrams of zinc per serving are oysters, beef shanks, and Alaska king crab. Raw thymus glandular refers to raw animal glandular tissue or extracts of this tissue. Extracts and glandular tissues are usually dried and ground-up.
