When weight and space are issues for cooking in the backcountry, small compact stoves are the way to go. But when base camp is close to the car, there are a number of stoves on the market with multiple burners for fast cooking action that are easy to set up, break down and clean. Great for camp, backyard cookouts, picnics, tailgating or emergencies, these stoves make cooking outside of the kitchen easier.

Century Matchless 4680

The Century Matchless 4680 is popular for campers on a budget. Camp chefs like the push button ignition system, hence the name "Matchless". The propane stove also burns at 12,000 BTUs, making fast food at camp a reality. A chrome plated drip tray makes the Century Matchless 4680 easy to clean, and built-in wind blocks keep the flames going when the wind picks up. It weighs about 7 pounds, and as of summer 2010 retailed for about $70.

Brunto Wind River

This deluxe propane stove is like bringing the kitchen to camp. Home quality, 15,000 BTU burners make the Brunto Wind River stove enjoyable to use in the field. The highly sensitive, adjustable burner makes this a favorite among camp cooks and is capable of delicate simmering and rolling boils on side-by-side burners, according to Campinglife.com. Its heavy duty construction would suggest long-time use. At 23 pounds, it retails for about $350 as of summer 2010.

Coleman PerfectFlow

The Perfect Flow is Coleman's offering of a stove/grill, with an aluminum grate burner on one side and a nickel/chrome-plated grill portion on the other. The PerfectFlow technology manages gas pressure evenly for more accurate adjustments, according to Coleman.com. The PerfectFlow is easy to clean, with a grease trap and dishwasher safe removable tray. As of summer 2010, it retails for about $80.

Camp Chef Yukon Stove

The stand-up and cook-like-a-pro Camp Chef Yukon Stove has more than 480 square inches of cooking space, making this one big stove top. Two 30,000 BTU burners keep things hot while remaining adjustable with low, medium and high settings. Three wind blocks, independently adjustable legs and quick set up make this stove a good choice for car campers, RVers or backyard picnics. It weighs in at 41 pounds with a suggested retail price of about $170 as of summer 2010.
