Frizzy hair is dry hair with insufficient amounts of moisture and oil. Your hair's outer cuticle layer becomes roughened, which makes hair more porous, ready to grab for moisture molecules in the air--the reason frizziness is worse in humid weather. Over-shampooing, over-styling and harsh chemicals can contribute to frizziness. Simple home remedies can nourish and moisturize your hair naturally, and banish the frizzies. Before trying the remedies, put a small amount on your wrist 24 hours before use to make sure you aren't allergic.

Vinegar

Smooth and flatten hair cuticles by combing white vinegar through your freshly-washed hair with a wide-tooth comb. Then condition as usual. When rinsing hair, use water as cold as you can bear. According to the Stretcher Lifestyle website, this helps "lock down" the cuticle and makes hair appear slicker and smoother.

Olive Oil and Egg

Mix 1/4 cup olive oil with one raw egg and apply it to the hair. Leave it on for 30 minutes, then shampoo with a moisturizing shampoo and condition the hair as usual. The olive oil acts as an emollient, helping to preserve moisture in your hair, and the egg contains L-cysteine, a natural amino acid that helps with building cells and repairing tissue.

Ponytail Method

Shampoo hair and condition very well, using generous amounts of a conditioner that contains coconut oil or castor oil. Use a cold water rinse, then comb damp hair through with a wide-tooth comb, and pull the hair firmly into a high, tight ponytail. Be sure to use a soft, cloth-covered hair tie--never a rubber band. Remove this when your hair is dry. Hair should lie flatter.

Honey After-Shampoo Rinse

Mix 1 tbsp. honey with 1 quart water. Pour it through freshly shampooed hair while it's still wet. Condition as usual. Honey is a natural humectant, meaning it attracts and holds water molecules and can help to moisturize your hair.

Mix 1 tbsp. dried chamomile flowers with 2 cups boiling water, and let the mixture stand for one hour. Add 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar. Shampoo your hair, pour the mixture through repeatedly, then condition as usual.

Weekly Conditioning Mayonnaise Hair Mask

This mask can enrich and nourish hair, helping eliminate the dryness that can cause frizziness. Mix a raw egg with 1/4 cup olive oil and 1/4 cup real mayonnaise. Apply the mixture to your hair, cover your head with a towel, and leave it on for 30 minutes. Shampoo out, and condition as usual, finishing with a cold water rinse. The eggs and mayonnaise help infuse your hair with protein, giving a richer, healthier appearance.

Banana and Avocado

Mash one very ripe, peeled banana and a ripe, peeled avocado. Combine them, then apply this to the hair. The banana contains antioxidants and minerals to promote healthy hair, and the avocado contains hair-nourishing fatty acids.
