Drills to improve stamina help prevent you from fatigue during sports and other activities. According to the Mayo Clinic, increasing personal strength and stamina allows you to maximize fitness and strength training. If you're coaching a team, drills to improve stamina can help your team stay strong and fresh throughout an entire game. Stamina drills should be administered after you have executed all other skill-based drills with your team.

Basketball Stamina Training

Have your entire team line up at the baseline of the court. On your whistle, have your players sprint down the court for five seconds. Any players that don't make it to the end of the court in five seconds are eliminated. Have the players who are left run three sprints up and down the court in 15 seconds. Continue this drill in odd numbers until only one team member is left. According to Degerstrom, this drill improves speed and agility, in addition to stamina. Keeping your players competitive throughout stamina drills can increase performance in drills that are less exciting and often more physically demanding than other drills.

Soccer Stamina Training

Find a track or other suitable running surface. Have your players run two miles at 50 percent to 60 percent. Halfway through the run, drop a soccer ball into the pack of runners. Have your players pass the ball around to each other while they continue to run. Passing while running helps improve passing skills as well as agility. This drill should be administered at the end of practice or on off days. Having your players run long distances for extended periods helps develop their hearts as well as promote blood flow. According to Expert Football, players who run two miles every few days develop better breathing techniques and stronger lungs.

Softball Stamina Drill

Have your entire infield in their proper positions. Order your shortstop to run for second base. When she breaks, have the catcher throw the ball to second base. After the ball is caught, have the third baseman run to third base and catch the ball from the shortstop. After the third basemen catches it, have the first baseman run to first and catch the ball from the third baseman. Repeat this drill several times to improve players' agility and stamina. According to Softball Performance, it's always important to observe your players' footwork to ensure they use good form during the drill.
