North Los Angeles is generally considered to be north of downtown and, with a few exceptions, north of the 10 freeway. There are plenty of places to enjoy the best Los Angeles has to offer in this area of town. Making good plans to conquer traffic before leaving the house ensures that your adventure goes smoothly and enough time is left for the activities of your choice.

Studio Tours

While in Los Angeles, visit at least one movie studio lot to get the feel of the industry that runs the city. Studio tours require a lot of healthy walking. Check out two studios located close to each other in the north part of the city: Warner Brothers and Universal. Sign up for a tour of the lot and possible taping of a show currently in production. Tours are at scheduled times, and becoming an audience member of a show requires getting a free ticket in advance. Make sure you plan to avoid being disappointed. Lot security is high, and you cannot just walk on without a pass and a reason to be there.

Hike Away

All of the best hiking spots are found in north Los Angeles. Try heading a little northwest to Temescal Canyon off Sunset Boulevard for a hike that peaks in breathtaking ocean views. In the same area of town, you'll find Will Rogers State Park where a more rustic and less populated hike can be found. Hike Runyan Canyon in North Hollywood to get a taste of the spot most of the city types use for exercise.

Museums

Los Angeles offers several options for the art lover with plenty of walking to get your heart rate up and your muscles moving. In northern Los Angeles, check out The Getty Center off the 405, or its smaller counterpart, The Getty Villa, off the Pacific Coast Highway. Both are free to get into, with only a small price for parking. Both museums contain some of the world's most renowned artwork and are a must see.
