Whether your reasons for detoxing are to improve your complexion or lose excess weight, cleansing your body is a safe and healthy way to improve your health. Here are some simple detox methods you can adopt into your lifestyle while still enjoying life and getting in touch with your body. As with all new changes to the body, it is important to not only maintain a balance of moderation, but also to start out simple and slow if it is your first cleanse.

Leafy greens, such as spinach, kale and chard, can boost your health by helping your body to become more alkaline. Greens have also shown to reduce cholesterol levels and cancer risks, improve digestion and have anti-inflammatory benefits. Nutrient-dense greens are a great way to do a simple detox method. Most greens are packed with detoxifying herbs and high levels of chlorophyll, making them an excellent choice for those wanting to do a slow detox that they can incorporate into their every day routine. Over time, greens can strengthen your immune system and alkalize the body, ultimately increasing your resistance to disease and illness.

The Lemon Water Cleanse

A lemon water detox is not only a refreshing way to cleanse, but raises the alkalizing effects of the body. The lemon water detox also stimulates the production of bile in the liver; trapping fat molecules and allowing them to be secreted out of the body. The lemonade cleanse consists of distilled lukewarm water, 2 tablespoons of organic lemon juice, 2 tablespoons grade-B maple syrup and 1/10th teaspoon cayenne pepper. For slow and simple detox method, this recipe can be incorporated into your routine as the first beverage of the day while continuing to eat whole and healthy meals. The minerals and vitamins in maple syrup include iron, potassium, magnesium, calcium, manganese, phosphorus, silicon and B vitamins including Pantothenic acid, a B vitamin known to reduce cholesterol levels. Combined with cayenne pepper, shown to increase metabolism and digestion, the benefits of this short-term lemon water detox will cleanse your internal organs.

Gentle Detox Herbs and Kits

Although there are numerous kinds of detoxifying kits in a typical natural or health food market, the base ingredients are very similar. Most detoxing kits consist of seven to 21 days of taking encapsulated herbs along with eliminating certain foods in your diet such as white flours, pasta, sugar, trans fats, preservatives and dairy. Although kits are a more convenient way to cleanse, look for cleanses that are marketed toward first-time cleansing. Look for kits free of Senna and Cascara segrada, on account of their potent laxative effects. Look instead for gentle detoxifying herbs such as red clover, burdock root, dandelion, ginger, licorice root, garlic, milk thistle and flax.

Become a Part-Time Vegetarian

Becoming a part-time vegetarian can be a simple way to eliminate the amount of hormones and other chemicals found in animal products. By reducing the amount of animal products you put into your body, you are also reducing the amount of animal toxins that may enter your fatty tissue and blood stream. Adopting a part-time vegetarian diet can also reduce your cholesterol levels by adding more whole foods and vegetables. The addition of fruits and vegetables into ones diet may also improve digestion, energy levels and is better for the environment. You may also chose to add freshly squeezed juice combinations such as carrot, beet, spinach, celery and ginger, which are high in nutrients and help to stimulate the body's own ability to detoxify naturally.
