Home to the Indians, Browns and Cavaliers sports teams, sports are an integral aspect of Cleveland city life. In addition to the pro sports entertainment, however, Cleveland also offers a number or free excursions that will satisfy the most health-conscious and active sports fan.

Walk

Downtown Cleveland's compact size and easy navigation along Superior Avenue make it an ideal city to explore by foot. While a stroll along the waterfront is a common choice, a tour of Cleveland's many diverse districts is also worth consideration. Cleveland neighborhoods offer something for everyone. Explore the eclectic mix of art galleries and boutiques in the historic Warehouse District or take in the unique architecture on and around Loraine Avenue as you window-shop among the areas antique shops and flea markets.

Bike

Cleveland offers over 20 miles of bike trails that are accessible throughout the city. One of the more popular places to begin your bike tour is Cuyahoga Valley National Park. The park contains three bike trails that include the Towpath trail, which follows the route of the Ohio and Erie Canal, or the 33-mile Hike and Bike Trail that follows the route the historic Akron, Bedford & Cleveland Railroad.

Run

You can enjoy Cleveland without sacrificing your run/jogging schedule. Cleveland Metropark All-Purpose Trail provides 60 miles of paved automobile and motorcycle free trails for your enjoyment. Additionally, several of the routes along the trail are designated physical fitness trails with set exercise stations incorporated along the running path.

Hike

The Cleveland area offers more than 10 state parks and nature preserves which all provide a wealth of free hiking venues. The Nature Center at Shaker Lakes for instance, offers a number of trails that introduce you to the area's flora and fauna, such as the Center's All People's Trail that provides a barrier-free exploration of the Cleveland area marshland.

Water Sports

Cleveland's position along the shore of Lake Erie make water sports a convenient activity worth consideration. One of the more popular areas to enjoy water-based activities is Headlands State Park. Headlands not only contains the largest natural sand beach in the state--ideal for swimming and beach volleyball--but also offers several sites for fishing species native to the lake such as catfish, walleye and steelhead trout.
