Excessive perspiration in the feet can cause them to smell. Our feet have more than 250,000 sweat glands and can easily produce 1/2 cup of sweat daily. You won't see that much sweat on your feet, and it's absorbed throughout the day. This amount of sweat can cause bacteria, creating foot odor. Home remedies from your kitchen can help.
Black Tea
Soaking your feet in black tea for 30 minutes can be very helpful. Add two tea bags to a pint of water, bring it to a boil and add two quarts of cool water. The tannic acid in the tea can kill the bacteria. Your feet should feel and smell better because this remedy soothes and relaxes them, creating less stress.
White Vinegar
White vinegar is made by oxidizing alcohol and is very pure. To help with foot odor, take 1 part warm vinegar to 2 parts water and combine it in a large basin. Soak your feet in it for at least 10 minutes. This helps disinfect and deodorize your feet.
Sage
Sage, a shrub used in cooking, has many medicinal properties. Sage is high in tannic acid, which is an antibacterial with astringent properties. The astringent properties contract blood vessels in sweat glands, helping to reduce odor. The antibacterial properties can kill bacteria that create foot odor. The next time you put your shoes on, sprinkle some crushed sage into your shoe. You can also make a sage soak by steeping 10 large sage leaves or 1 tsp. ground sage into a basin of hot water and soak your feet once a day. You can also drink a glass of cold sage tea at night before bedtime to prevent nighttime sweating.
