How to Fix a Lifestyler Treadmill

Lifestyler treadmills are a line of fitness machines produced exclusively for sale at Sears department stores. Although these treadmills are no longer in production, some enthusiasts still prefer them to more modern models due to their simplicity and ease of use; on certain models, the main controls consist of little more than a knob and a lever. Over time, problems may arise that affect the treadmill's ability to operate as desired; a few troubleshooting procedures may help you to restore the device to working order.

Power

Step 1

Confirm that the treadmill is properly connected to a grounded, 120-volt outlet. If you are using an extension cord, check that it is a 14-gauge, general purpose cord no more than 5 feet in length.

Step 2

Check the circuit breaker, located next to the treadmill's power cord. If the upper end of the switch is protruding, this indicates that the circuit breaker has tripped. Wait five minutes for the device to cool down, then push the protruding end of the switch back in.

Step 3

Insert the safety key into the slot on the front end of the treadmill's console. Slide the key to the right.

Incline

Step 1

Stand on the front portion of the treadmill's foot rails. Grip the incline adjustment lever, located on the right side of the console.

Step 2

Pull the lever and wait for the treadmill's base to reach its lowest angle of incline; if necessary, lean forward to help the base move downwards.

Step 3

Release the lever. Locate the nearby incline indicator and confirm that it displays a "1" in the bubble. If necessary, press the tip of a pen or straightened paper clip against the ends of the indicator until it resets to "1."

Step 4

Stand on the rear portion of the foot rails. Pull the adjustment lever and wait for the angle of incline to increase. Release the lever and move to the front portion of the foot rails. Pull the adjustment lever and wait for the angle of incline to decrease to its starting position. Release the lever.

Walking Belt

Step 1

Move the treadmill key to the left and extract it from the console. Disconnect the power cord.

Step 2

Find the two bolts set into the rear end of the treadmill's base. Use an Allen wrench to turn each bolt counterclockwise a quarter of a turn. Continue turning the bolts until your are able to lift the sides of the belt two to three inches off the deck of the treadmill. Apply a spray or thin stream of silicone lubricant to the deck of the treadmill.

Step 3

Inspect the treadmill belt to confirm that it is properly centered on the deck. If necessary, move the belt to the right by turning the left bolt clockwise and the right bolt counterclockwise; do the reverse to shift the belt to the left. Turn the bolts a quarter turn at a time and inspect the belt after each adjustment.
