Dry hair is a fairly common problem. "Rosemary Gladstar's Herbal Recipes for Vibrant Health" states that this is the case, particularly in the modern age, because many people wash their hair too frequently with shampoos and conditioners that contain damaging chemical ingredients. However, the book says that using natural treatments for dry hair will give your locks luster, bounce and moisture again.
Avocado
According to the book "Alternative Cures: More Than 1,000 of the Most Effective Natural Home Remedies," avocado is a particularly effective dry hair treatment. Avocado moisturizes and strengthens dry locks by increasing the protein content of the hair shaft. "Alternative Cures" recommends making a simple weekly treatment by mashing together 1 tsp. of jojoba oil, 1 tsp. of wheat germ oil and one peeled, diced, ripe avocado. Massage the mixture into your scalp and down to the ends of your hair, cover your hair in a plastic bag and let the treatment soak in for 15 to 30 minutes. Rinse it out in the sink, as the avocado can clog shower drains.
Aloe Vera
Aloe vera has natural healing properties that can restore moisture to parched hair. Additionally, it can heal dry, scaly areas on your scalp. "Alternative Cures" says to add 1 tsp. of pure aloe gel to your usual dose of shampoo and massage the mixture into your scalp for about five minutes each time you wash your hair. Make sure to rinse the mixture completely from your hair, as dried aloe vera residue can irritate your scalp.
Egg
Egg yolks are a pure source of protein and fat, both of which can give limp, dry locks a boost. "The Green Beauty Guide" says that shampooing your hair with this natural ingredient once or twice a week can really do wonders for frizzled ends. Simply wet down your hair completely and carefully rub one egg yolk into your scalp. Rinse the egg out of your hair using cool water so that it doesn't curdle on your head.
Jojoba Oil
Jojoba oil is incredibly easy for your hair to absorb and restores shine and balance to your locks and scalp. According to "The Green Beauty Guide," the easiest way to treat dry hair with jojoba oil is to keep a small bottle of it in the shower. Fill your palm with the oil and massage it into your scalp, making sure to rinse thoroughly to keep your hair from looking oily. Repeat the treatment once a week.
