Women seek natural breast creams not just for vanity's sake, but to protect their own health. Regular breast massage promotes blood and lymphatic fluid circulation. Using breast massage along with natural creams made with therapeutic botanicals can boost immunity, fight infection, prevent stretch marks, help dissolve cysts and possibly promote breast firmness by maintaining healthy tissue. Look for natural breast creams from reputable health and beauty suppliers, or create one of your own.
Massage Balm
Herbal body care author Dina Falconi posits that healing breast massages using therapeutic oils provide valuable immunity-boosting services for the entire body. The "breast balm" recipe in her book "Earthly Bodies and Heavenly Hair" uses herbs and essential oils that support the lymphatic system.
To follow the recipe, fill a clean quart jar with one part violet blossoms, two parts each red clover blossoms and calendula petals, and four parts dandelion flowers (yellow parts only). Cover with olive oil, all the way to the rim of the jar, and set on a sunny windowsill for at least three days. Strain the spent botanicals. Gently heat 2 1/2 cups of the herbal olive oil with 4 oz. beeswax. Once the beeswax melts, remove from the stove and add 1 tbsp liquid vitamin E and ½ tsp each tangerine and sandalwood essential oils. Pour into a wide-mouthed container, let cool and cover.
Firming Formula
Herbalist Jeanne Rose shares a formula for firming "over-flagging breasts" in her "Herbal Body Book." Combine 1 oz. each dried and crumbled lady's mantle, comfrey and sweet woodruff leaves. Crush 1 oz. quince seed using a mortle and pestle. Add these ingredients to a large enamel pot or dark glass bottle. Pour ½ cup dry white wine over the botanicals; the wine helps extract their therapeutic properties. Let the mixture sit a few hours, covered. On a stove, gently heat 2 quarts olive, sweet almond or sunflower oil. Pour the warmed oil into the pot or bottle to cover the wine-steeped herbs and seeds. Set on a sunny windowsill for several days.
Strain and rebottle the mixture. Use this is a daily body oil, taking time for breast massage. To turn the herbal oil into a cream, gently heat ½ oz beeswax and 1 oz lanolin or cocoa butter. Gradually pour in 4 oz. of the herbal oil, stirring frequently. Remove from the heat and add 1 oz. water and 5 drops ylang ylang essential oil. Pour into a widemouth container, cool and cover.
Soothing Compress Cream
Use castor oil to soothe tender breasts or infections related to pregnancy, nursing or premenstrual syndrome, suggests "The Doctors Book of Home Remedies." Castor oil encourages the production of infection-fighting cells in the body known as T11 lymphocytes . Dip clean flannels into castor oil and apply them to your breasts. Cover these compresses with plastic, applying a heating pad over the plastic. Alternatively, turn the castor oil into a cream by using the recipe noted in the firming formula section (use the castor oil instead of the infused herbal oil; essential oil is optional). Warm the castor oil cream with your hands, or apply plastic and a heating pad.
