The Epic 400 is an entry-level treadmill designed for use in the home. Its features include a 2.25 HP motor, a top speed of 12 mph, a built-in heart rate monitor and the ability to fold up for easier storage. The Epic 400 also possesses an adjustable incline setting, managed through a series of buttons on the device's console. Should you have trouble getting your treadmill's incline feature to work as desired, the problem may lie with a loose wire or faulty component.
Step 1
Clip the treadmill key onto your waistband, then insert the key into the treadmill's console. Stand on the foot rails and press the "Start" button. Press one of the incline buttons and wait for the treadmill's deck to adjust position; if the deck fails to move, proceed to the next step.
Step 2
Remove the treadmill key from the console and unplug the power cord. Inspect the area underneath the treadmill's console and locate the screws securing the console to the uprights. Remove the screws and lift the console upwards. Confirm that the upright wire harness is properly connected to the console wire harness. Replace the previously-removed screws and secure the console back onto the uprights.
Step 3
Remove the screws securing the upper and lower sections of the motor casing in place; you may require the assistance of second person in order to access the lower section. Remove both sections and set them aside.
Step 4
Remove the stop bracket from the end of the incline motor, then remove the bolt securing the incline motor to the treadmill's frame. Disconnect the incline motor from any attached cables. Remove the motor and install a replacement component in its place. Connect the stop bracket to the new motor, then secure the motor to the frame. Connect any previously-disconnected cables. Replace both motor casings.
