Home Remedies for Chemically Damaged Hair

Healthy hair should look smooth, shiny and be easy to comb. Damaged hair is dry, weak and tangles easily. Damage can occur from many different factors such as heat, over brushing, chlorine, and dryness in the air. Perming and coloring your hair will only add more damage. If your hair is chemically damaged, home remedies can restore its health and shine.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Unfiltered raw apple cider vinegar is rich in enzymes and balances your hair's pH level. Apple cider vinegar removes residue build up, leaving your hair smooth and shiny. Mix 1 cup of apple cider vinegar with 2 cups of warm water. After shampooing, massage the vinegar into your hair. Leave it in for 10 minutes.Rinse well, and then condition as usual.

Coconut Milk

Coconut milk is full of proteins which can strengthen your hair, minimizing breakage. It can also protect your hair and scalp from the sun's damaging UV rays. Mix 1 cup of coconut milk and 2 tbsp. of flour, stirring it into a pasty consistency. Pour the coconut milk on your hair. Leave it in for 30 minutes. Rinse completely, then shampoo and condition as usual.

Olive Oil

Olive oil nourishes, conditions and improves the strength and elasticity of your hair. Olive oil is rich in fatty acids and vitamin E which moisturizes, protects and nourishes your hair. Pour 1 cup of olive oil on your hair. Leave it in for 20 minutes. Rinse thoroughly, then shampoo and condition as usual.

Mayonnaise

Mayonnaise smooths and conditions your hair due to its rich oil. This oil allows light to reflect off your hair, and enhances its shine. Massage 1/2 a cup of mayonnaise into your hair. Leave it in for 15 minutes. Rinse thoroughly, then shampoo and condition as usual.

Avocado

Avocado contains fatty acids and proteins. Using an avocado hair mask will strengthen your hair, and make it soft and shiny. Mash up an avocado in a bowl until all of the lumps are gone. Comb it through your hair thoroughly using your fingers. Leave it in for 20 minutes, rinse out, then shampoo and condition as usual.
