There are natural herbs that can help you cut belly fat. Plants contain potent compounds, such as the polyphenol antioxidants found in green tea. These natural chemical components of the herbs help to target belly fat by boosting metabolic rate, increasing fatty-acid release from body-fat stores and helping to suppress hunger for cutting calories. Some of these herbs contain natural stimulants like caffeine and are not for everyone. Always check with your doctor before beginning any new supplement regimen.

Guarana

Guarana contains stimulants such as caffeine and theophylline, which can enhance mental focus and boost muscle performance. In fact, caffeine works directly to increase norepinephrine in the body, releasing more fatty acids for energy usage and giving you plenty of energy to workout harder, according to "Homemade Supplement Secrets" by Jeff Anderson. Take 200 to 600mg of guarana extract or 100 to 300mg of caffeine, the equivalent of one to three strong cups of coffee.

Cayenne

Cayenne comes from hot chili peppers and speeds metabolic rate due to a chemical compound known as capsaicin, according to the Muscle & Fitness article "Supplements 101" by Jim Stoppani. This substance boosts internal body heat and may decrease hunger. Take enough cayenne to supply 40,000 to 80,000 Scoville heat units per serving.

Green Tea Extract

Green tea has fat-burning properties beyond the effects of its natural caffeine content, which is far lower than guarana or coffee beans. Green tea contains EGCG, or epigallocatechin gallate, a natural polyphenol antioxidant that accelerates resting metabolic rate, according to author Jeff Anderson. One way it does this is by increasing the activity of norepinephrine in the body. Take 500mg of green tea extract or the equivalent that is standardized to contain 300mg of EGCG.

Citrus Aurantium

This herb comes from bitter orange extract and contains a chemical compound known as synephrine. Similar in chemical structure to ephedrine, citrus aurantium extract boosts metabolic rate without significantly boosting heart rate or blood pressure, according to Stoppani's "Supplements 101." Take 200 to 600mg of citrus aurantium, standardized to 5 to 20mg of synephrine, two to three times per day.

Yohimbe

Yohimbe is an alkaloid from West Africa that has traditionally been used to enhance male libido because of its positive effect on nitric oxide levels. By inhibiting alpha receptors, the active ingredient in yohimbe increases the amount of fatty acids that can be released from fat stores in trouble areas, such as the belly. Take a product standardized for 2 to 10mg of yohimbine, the active ingredient in the yohimbe herb, three times per day.
