Pregnancy changes your body's hormonal landscape, and as such, can leave you with some undesirable side effects, such as hair on your chin, upper lip, chest, knuckles and back. Many women lose this hair naturally, over time, as their bodies shift back to their pre-pregnancy state. For some women, this hair sticks around and must be treated. Unwanted hair can signal a potentially serious medical condition, so it's important to have it evaluated by your doctor.

Step 1

See your doctor to have your hormone levels tested. Often, excess hair is caused by too much male hormone in your body. Blood tests are the first step in developing a treatment plan.

Step 2

Take prescription birth control pills. These pills take over your body's hormonal system and can often restore enough balance to thwart hair growth.

Step 3

Try a prescription cream containing eflorinithine, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center. Apply to areas where you have excess hair to prevent the hair from growing back. Understand that if you stop using the cream, your hair will grow back.

Step 4

Ask your doctor to evaluate your ovaries and adrenal glands. Tumors or malfunctions in these glands can trigger excess male hormone and cause hair growth.

Step 5

Practice good hydration and nutrition, according to the University of Maryland Medical center, to help lose excess air after pregnancy. Proper nutrition can help hormone function. Avoid refined foods, saturated fats and alcohol. Eat fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains and lean meats. Drink six to eight glasses of water daily and try to exercise for at least 30 minutes on most days of the week.

Step 6

Consider cosmetic treatments, according to the Academy of American Family Physicians. Try waxing or tweezing hair initially to see if this resolves the problem. Try more advanced and permanent methods, such as laser air removal, if the hair returns.
