Any facial that is designed to improve the condition of the skin is a good facial if it is performed in a professional manner and some improvement is seen afterward. A facial should include procedures and products that will enhance the appearance of the skin. Since skin types are not all the same, the procedures and the products used in a facial may differ from one person to the next. Facials that are good for the skin should address the needs of a particular skin type.
Normal, Dry or Mature Skin
A good facial for skin that is normal, dry or mature is a facial that involves cleansing of the skin, steaming, facial massage, application of a treatment mask made for the type of skin being worked on, application of a toner and application of an appropriate moisturizer. The mask used in this type of facial should be formulated to exfoliate the skin, as well as moisturize it. This type of facial should leave normal or dry skin looking clean and hydrated. Mature skin should look clean and hydrated, and lines and wrinkles should have a softer appearance.
Oily and Acne Skin
A good facial for skin that is oily or blemished will involve skin cleansing with an oil-balancing cleanser, steaming, a special type of facial massage that helps drain the oil ducts, extraction of blackheads and pimples, application of a mask designed to treat oily or acne skin and application of an astringent and oil-free moisturizer. A facial for oily skin should help normalize the skin. Acne may look worse after this type of facial, as the pores purge the impurities, but should show an improvement afterward.
Combination Skin
Skin care products that address the needs of different areas of the face are used in a good combination skin facial. The combination skin facial will include a mild cleanser, steam, facial massage, and extraction of blackheads and impurities. A good combination skin facial will also include the application of a mask for oily skin to the forehead, nose and chin, and the application of a mask designed to treat dry or normal skin to the other areas of the face. The skin will be wiped with a mild toner, and moisturizer that matches the needs of the oily, dry or normal areas of the face will be applied to the skin. The combination skin facial should leave the skin looking more normal.
Couperose Skin
A good facial for couperose skin will include facial cleansing with a mild cleanser, a mint tea mask to calm the skin, gentle massage, application of a mask designed specifically for couperose skin and application of a mild lotion. The couperose skin facial should make the broken blood vessels less noticeable.
