The Walt Disney World Resort is located in the heart of the Sunshine State in Lake Buena Vista near Orlando. Disney World includes four theme parks, two water parks, four golf courses, and a sports complex along with special shopping, dining and entertainment areas. Visitors to Walt Disney World will find an abundance of activities to take part in and should plan to stay several days. The Campsites at Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort provides vacationers with a place to camp near all the excitement, as well as an escape from the crowds.

Significance

Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort is positioned among 750 acres of flourishing woodlands in between the Magic Kingdom and Epcot theme parks. The campground first opened in 1971 as one of Disney's initial lodging options. It is the only campground located inside of Walt Disney World Resort and offers vacationers the lowest-priced accommodations available. Staying at this Disney World campground allows guests to enjoy the natural surroundings while camping in a tent or recreational vehicle.

Campsites

You can choose from four different kinds of campsites for your Disney World camping trip. Campers with tents, vans, truck campers or pop-up trailers can use campsites with partial hook-ups (water and electric). Travelers with RVs can select from regular, preferred or premium full hook-up (water, electric and sewer) campsites. All campsites offer cable television, Internet access (fee added), grills and picnic tables. The preferred and premium campsites offer campers larger parking pads, the best locations, upgraded grills and tables and some pet-friendly sites too.

Recreation

Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort includes outdoor recreation for the vacationers staying in the campground. Campers can travel around the large Fort Wilderness area using rented bikes or golf carts available by the day or week. Other recreational options for campers include courts to play tennis, volleyball, tetherball, shuffleboard and basketball as well as areas to play horseshoes or to learn archery. Kids can spend hours at four separate playgrounds spread throughout the Fort Wilderness Resort.

Activities

Fort Wilderness campers will find a number of activities to take part in within the resort property. This includes two swimming pools with planned activities for the kids and the adjacent Bay Lake Beach offering swimming, boat rentals and a water sports center. The Tri-Circle-D Ranch activities include guided horseback, carriage or wagon tours through the backwoods. Additional activities consist of fishing, a 2.3-mile jogging trail, campfire sing-a-longs, an arcade room, a dog park and two-hour Segway adventures through the wilderness.

Dining

While staying at Disney's campground, you can either prepare your own food at your campsite or stop by one of the Fort Wilderness Resort restaurants and entertainment venues. Choose from a lively dinner and musical comedy show known as Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue, or you can try Mickey's Backyard BBQ that features an all-you-can-eat meal along with singing and dancing. Fort Wilderness campers can take a break from cooking and check out the rustic Trails End Restaurant or pick up a quick bite to eat at Crockett's Tavern that also features a full-service bar.
