For men dealing with a sexual disorder, prescription medication is one method of treatment that they may consider. However, there are natural herbal supplements available as over-the-counter medications that can have similar effects. Available in most local drug stores and supermarkets, these herbs can be found in the form of pills, powders and even liquid extracts.
Herbal supplements fall under the category of naturopathic medicine, which promotes a holistic approach to health with minimal use of surgeries and drugs. Always consult your physician before attempting naturopathic remedies at home.

Asian Ginseng

One common male sexual disorder is erectile dysfunction, which can be both embarrassing and debilitating to your sexual health. According to the University of Michigan Health System, one herb that can help treat this disorder is Asian ginseng. According to the university, some research has shown that, in a double-blind Korean study, 1,800 mg per day of Asian ginseng extract for three months helped improve libido and the ability to maintain an erection in men with erectile dysfunction. This finding was also seen in a separate double-blind study that included 900 mg per day for eight weeks. Further research into the effectiveness of Asian ginseng for the treatment of erectile dysfunction continues as of the time of this writing.

Maca

According to the University of Michigan Health System, another herbal supplement that has been found to offer male sexual disorder treatment is maca, typically in powder form. The university says preliminary documentation shows that men who have taken maca powder to treat impotence have seen an increase in sperm production. Furthermore, men have also reported increased libido and sexual desire after taking the herbal supplement on a daily basis. According to the university, there are no documented adverse reactions or side effects associated with maca root products as of this time.

Other Herbs

Many times an outside influence can cause the sexual disorder or issue for the patient. For example, the University of Maryland Medical Center lists multiple reasons for male sexual dysfunction, including side effects associated with some antidepressant medication like Zoloft or Prozac. The university says natural herbs like kava kava, St. John's wort and other supplements may treat depression without the same side effects that disrupt sexual function. Before making a switch to a natural alternative, however, you should first discuss this with a medical professional.
