Easy skateboard tricks are the fundamentals of the most complicated maneuvers. Practicing and perfecting easy tricks helps you advance more quickly. Perfecting the basic tricks also helps you invent new ones of your own. But always practice safety first; wear a helmet, wrist guards, knee and elbow pads. And remember that, as with any sport, there is a learning curve with skateboarding.

The Ollie

The ollie is a basic trick that is a part of several complicated skateboard maneuvers. An ollie is where you make the skateboard jump off the ground while never losing contact with the skateboard deck. To perform this trick, keep your legs slightly bent and lower your shoulders. Keep your back foot on the end of the board and your front foot in the middle between the trucks, or axles, of the skateboard. Slam your back foot down on the tail as you lift your front foot and jump in the air. Roll your front foot as the board rises and the board descends, and land with both feet back on the deck.

Caveman

To do the caveman, you simply jump up in the air and land on your skateboard with both feet at the same time. Then take your board in one hand and swing it low around your shins. As it becomes parallel to your body, jump up and land on the board with both feet above the trucks.

Power Slide

The power slide is a fast and easy way to stop. Skating forward at a comfortable speed, slide the skateboard horizontal to a stop by shifting your weight to your front foot and sliding your back heel around 90 degrees.

Tail Manual

Perform the tail manual by balancing on the rear wheels with your front wheels off the ground as the skateboard is moving forward, also known as a wheelie. Start pedaling the board to increase your speed. Keep a moderate pace. With your front foot just below the front truck and your rear foot on the tail, push down on the back, using your front foot to keep your balance. Keep your weight centered over the rear truck, using your front and rear foot to maintain your balance.

Toeside Rail Stand

Begin the toeside rail stand by flipping the skateboard while flat on the ground and landing with both feet on each wheel, standing on the board while it is vertical. First you push down on the toe side of the board. Give the board a slight push forward and jump up, slightly landing with both your feet on the wheels. To complete the trick, give it slight push backwards and land flat on the skateboard with both of your feet over the trucks.

Fakie

To do a fakie, begin by riding the board as it is moving backwards from a typical stance. Place your front foot where your back foot is normally for peddling. Once moving, pivot on your front foot, place your back foot on the board, and keep your head and body facing in the direction you are leaving.
