Acerola lotion is a skin care product made from acerola cherries. Acerola cherries are a potent source of antioxidants, especially vitamin C. Acerola lotion is intended to revive your skin and prevent damage from the sun as well as from free radicals. The lotion promises to prevent wrinkles and uneven skin tone, thanks to its blend of ingredients.

Water

Water is the main ingredient in acerola lotion, according to DHC Skincare. Water not only makes acerola lotion easy to apply and spread, but also provides moisture to your skin. Preventing dry skin is important--the Mayo Clinic explains that dry skin can shrivel skin cells, resulting in wrinkles and lines.

Glycerin

Glycerin is a common ingredient in moisturizers. According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, glycerin is classified as a humectant, which means that it pulls water from deep within your skin tissue to the surface of your skin. This provides moisture for surface skin cells, preventing dried skin.

Aloe barbadensis leaf juice

Aloe barbadensis leaf juice is more commonly known as "aloe vera," and is a main ingredient in acerola lotion. As the University of Maryland Medical Center explains, aloe vera is useful for cosmetics because it contains compounds that encourage growth and repair of skin cells. Aloe vera can also relieve skin irritation and burns.

Acerola cherry extract

Acerola cherry extract provides a pleasant odor in acerola lotion, but that's not all it does. As the website Amazon Discovery notes, acerola is "considered the richest source of natural vitamin C," but also provides additional nutrients. Acerola cherries contain vitamin A, iron, calcium and niacin. These nutrients can help encourage healthy skin. Additionally, acerola cherries contain mineral salts that can improve stressed skin (See References 5).
