The Kubaton is a self-defense weapon that is widely used by police departments and safety-conscious individuals. The weapon is generally about 5.5 inches in length and less than an inch in diameter. It can be made of metal, plastic or wood. One of the unique things about this weapon is that it doubles as a key chain. If you are attacked, an assailant may not even realize that you are carrying this inconspicuous weapon. There are several simple self-defense techniques you can execute with the Kubaton.
Eye Strike
The eyes are a primary target on an assailant. When you strike his eyes, you inflict pain and can temporarily blind the attacker. Because of its size, the Kubaton is an effective weapon for striking the eyes. To execute an eye strike, grasp the Kubaton and thrust the bottom end of the weapon toward one of the attacker's eyes.
Hand Strike
A hand strike is an effective technique to use if an attacker grabs you by the wrist or surprises you from behind and wraps his arms around your waist. Strike the back of the attacker's hand with the bottom end of the Kubaton. Forcefully striking the nerves and bones on the back of the hand can hurt the attacker. The hand strike can make the assailant let go and give you the opportunity to escape. You can also use the Kubaton to grind down on the attacker's hand to make him let go.
Groin Strike
If an attacker assaults you from the front or back, strike his groin with the Kubaton. Hold the keys to execute this strike. Quickly swing the Kubaton up between the attacker's legs, more than once if necessary. Try to avoid letting the assailant grab the Kubaton while you swing it.
Ear Pinch
If an attacker takes you to the ground, you may feel that your self-defense options are limited. However, one area you can attack is the ear. Grab the attacker's earlobe between your thumb and the bottom of the Kubaton and firmly pinch the earlobe. This Kubaton technique can give you the opportunity to get back on your feet.
Key Whip
Your keys can do a lot of damage to an attacker. If the assailant attempts a frontal assault, hold the Kubaton and whip your keys at his face. Take several swipes at the attacker's face and eyes by whipping your keys around in a figure-8 motion. The key whip is a fast technique that can be difficult for the attacker to avoid.
