In addition to eight DVD workouts designed for beginners, Kathy Smith also provides you with two audio walking programs that take you outdoors to push through your plateaus.

According to "Fitness" magazine reviewer Jenna Mahoney, "The Biggest Loser 2: The Workout" provides the best beginner cardio routine she's seen. The workout provides easy moves that allow you to learn the skills before progressing on. The DVD also allows you to customize your workout, and vary your routine as you progress past the beginner level. According to Mahoney, not everything about the DVD was flawless. Trainer Bob Harper looked distracting and instructor Kim Lyons didn't always provide information on form or technique, but overall the DVD was motivating and fun.

Jillian Michaels: The Complete Workout for Beginners

Listed as "Fitness" magazine's "Best For: Back-to-Basics," Jillian Michaels effectively takes exercisers through a circuit routine that tones and teaches at the same time. This DVD offers "frontside" and "backside" options that allow you to pick and choose whether to work the front of your body or the back of your body. Also, the combination of strength and cardio moves will keep your heart rate up and burn an estimated 370 to 460 calories per hour.
