Aspen Park Mountain Bike Trail

Located right inside Gaylord, Michigan, Aspen Park Mountain Bike Trail is only for mountain bikers with the proper bike. This includes front suspension and a mountain bike. Reviewers from "Single Track" state that the trail is seven miles long and very well marked, so bikers won't get lost. The duration to complete the ride is around 1 hour and 10 minutes. The pathway has enough space for one bicycle at a time, and riders should bring adequate water for the duration as there are not stores along the pathway.

Warner Creek Bicycle Path

Just outside of Gaylord, Michigan, lies the Warner Creek Bicycle Path, which serves as a bicycle path during the warmer months and a ski path during the winter. According to North County Trail, the path is 18 miles long, with 11.2 miles along the river, making it a scenic bicycling path for beginner to intermediate cyclists. The path is hilly but not a difficult ride. Make sure to bring some snacks and water because it is a long ride.

North Central State Trail

One of the larger bicycling options available in Gaylord, Michigan, is the North Central State Trail, which stretches 62 miles. Trail Link reports that in 2007 the trail was resurfaced with gravel and has resulted in one of the nicest bicycle paths in the Midwest. The resurfacing of the trail makes it an easier ride and therefore suitable for novices. The ride offers great views of Sturgeon River and Mullet Lake. Riders should wear sunblock as most of the ride is uncovered and in the sun.

Pine Baron Pathway

Pine Baron Pathway is 8.75 miles long, with dense, scenic wooded areas. The trail is rated for novices with some small hills and "Whooping Loop," which adds some difficulty, states Michigan´s Travel website. The path is maintained for bicycling and walking in the summer but is used for skiing in the winter. Riders should bring bug spray if they intend to stop.

Shingle Mill Pathway

A 10-mile ride from Gaylord is the Shingle Mill Pathway, a 14-mile path with five loops, suitable for bicycling and hiking. The trail has a couple of lookouts over Pigeon River and is rated for novices, states the Michigan Tourism website. The path is not maintained by anyone but is used often enough so that it rarely gets covered by plant life.
