The legendary fountain of youth may not have been found by European explorer Juan Ponce de León in the 1500s, but numerous anti-aging creams on today's store shelves seem to promise similar miracles in a bottle. Don't let exaggerated manufacturer claims or celebrity endorsements lead you astray. Many products don't contain anything that can effectively treat wrinkles, age spots and other poor skin conditions. For the most effective results, pick a cream that's been reviewed and approved by skincare experts or dermatologists.
Olay Total Effects 7-in-1 Anti-Aging Moisturizer
Olay, a long contender in the anti-aging product category, offers its Total Effects cream as a purported treatment for seven different signs of aging, including fine lines and poor tone. Anti-aging expert Paula Begoun, in her review book "Don't Go to the Cosmetics Counter Without Me," tested the cream and found it to be "very good." She liked its use of rejuvenating niacinamide and silicone. The latter can give your skin an instantly smoother appearance by filling in imperfections. She notes that a fragrance-free version is available that's more appropriate for sensitive skin.
La Roche-Posay Anthelios SPF 60+
Since the sun's light breaks down your skin's collagen and causes hyperpigmentation problems, "Women's Health" magazine's panel of dermatologists picked sunscreen as the most important anti-aging product. One of the best-performing facial sunscreen's comes from France's La Roche-Posay. The magazine liked its use of proprietary sunscreen ingredients to effectively block out UVA and UVB rays, the former which is responsible for creating wrinkles. Since it contains no fragrances and doesn't clog pores, this cream can be used even on acne-prone or sensitive skin.
Fresh Black Tea Age-Delay Cream
Fresh's anti-aging cream comprises one of the most antioxidant-rich treatments available from the company, reports Begoun. She liked its combination of antioxidants and beneficial herbal extracts, which may work together to help combat and prevent skin damage that can lead to aging symptoms like fine lines.
Clinique Advanced Stop Signs Eye Preventive Cream SPF 15
The eyes are said to be the window to the soul. Keep them bright and youthful with Clinique's eye-targeting treatment. Begoun says it's made with an "elegant formula" that combines moisturizers, antioxidants---antioxidants reduce the negative effects of free radicals, which may cause wrinkles---and sunscreen to help nourish, condition and protect the eye area. She concludes that it can "absolutely" reduce the creation of new wrinkles.
