With a plethora of impressive rock formations, deep gorges, waterfalls and high cliffs, the Hocking Hills region of Ohio is a natural wonderland. The area is home to nine state parks as well as many regional parks. Endless opportunities for outdoor recreation exist in the area providing a healthy way to spend the day. Immerse yourself in the natural beauty of Hocking Hills by trying something new.

Camping

There are a large number of campgrounds in the Hocking Hills region. Camping can provide a relaxing escape from everyday life as you enjoy the fresh air. Both RV and tend camping sites are available. For a different camping experience altogether, At Boulder's Edge Retreat offers teepee camping. Some of the other main camping spots include AW Marion State Park, Spotted Horse Ranch, Hocking River RV Park and Top O' The Caves Resort.

Canoeing/Kayaking

The Hocking River and Lake Logan provide opportunities for canoeing and kayaking. Bring your own boats or rent them from Hocking Hills Canoe Livery or Hocking Valley Canoe Livery. The services drive you to a certain point on the river and launch your boats. You then paddle back to their locations along the river. Both businesses also offer guided trips such as moonlight tours and beginner trips.

Horseback Riding

For a distinctive way to see the beauty of Hocking Hills, go horseback riding. The two main businesses in the area are Happy Trails Horseback Rides and Uncle Buck's Riding Stable. Uncle Buck's offers guided tours through Zaleski and Waterloo State Forests. Happy Trails takes you near landmarks such as Conkles Hollow, the Ash Cave and Cantwell's Cliffs. Riders of all levels can be accommodated.

Zip-Line Tour

Whiz through the forest from above at top speeds as you ride a zip line. Hocking Hills Canopy Tours is only one of two zip-line attractions in Ohio as of 2010. For those looking for adventure, visit Hocking Peaks Adventure Park, from where the tour leaves. The park is easily accessible from State Route 674.

ATV Riding

Ride an ATV through the woods of Wayne National Forest. More than 70 miles of trails are available. No ATV rentals are available so you must bring your own. Both ATVs and off-highway motorcycles are permitted. The Monday Creek area of the forest is open to riders from April 15th through December 15th every year. Loading ramps are available at the White Oak Trailhead and the New Straitsville Trailhead.
