When you think of Niagara Falls, Ontario, camping is probably not the first thing that comes to mind. However, there are many camping sites for tents, RVs and resorts located in the city that offer a wide selection of recreational activities such as parks, swimming, and trails. Being so close to Niagara Falls adds an exciting twist for active and health-conscious travelers who want to take advantage of their closeness to one of the world's most popular tourism cities.
Niagara River
Many of Niagara Falls' camping sites are close to the Niagara River, with some even overlooking it. Take a hike on the Niagara River Recreational Trial that stretches 35 miles or you can take a boat, canoe, or kayak onto the river and experience the scenery firsthand. Scuba divers are also welcome to investigate the underwater livelihood of the many fish swimming around the river.
Recreational Areas
Each camp resort offers some form of recreational area, each with its own healthy living benefits. There are playgrounds and sports fields for children to keep them active and entertained during the days, while a recreation hall offers bingo one night and a hoedown the next. Many of the games and events organized by resorts have some sort of healthy aspect to them, whether they involve dancing or a game of soccer, and there's always something going on for every member of your family.
Pools and Hot Tubs
A few of the camping resorts in Niagara Falls have options for the fish in you. On-site hot tubs and swimming pools both small and large are available to those who like to stay healthy by swimming some laps or playing in the waves as well as those who enjoy relaxing in the bubbling waters. Some also offer smaller pools for younger campers.
Golf
Many of the camping locations are within walking distance of both regulation and mini-golf courses. Pack your clubs or rent a set and hit the links for the day. You can play nine or 18 holes on the adult courses or bring out the kids out for colorful fun by trying miniature golf, with most locations within minutes of camping sites on Lundy's Lane or Clifton Hill.
Animal Exhibition Park
Located in the southern end of the city is one of Niagara Falls' leading attractions, Marineland. Primarily open from mid-May to mid-October, Marineland combines the camping experience with animal education. Marineland has Niagara's largest campsite and offers daily rates for campsites for up to six people per site. Activities include swimming, fishing, playground, golf course, boating and other activities for the family to enjoy.
