Gastroenteritis or "stomach flu" can result from a virus or bacteria and cause vomiting and diarrhea. Although symptoms usually resolve without treatment in a few days, homeopathic remedies can help. Gastroenteritis can become very serious in infants, young children, people with compromised immune systems and older adults, warns the Mayo Clinic. If symptoms last more than a few days, seem severe, or you have signs of dehydration, consult your doctor immediately. Homeopathy is generally considered safe, but you should consult a trained homeopath or your physician before using homeopathic care, particularly if you are under medical care.

Arsenicum

Arsenicum is indicated if you are having dark putrid stools that are watery, or if you are having vomiting and diarrhea at the same time. You may feel restless, anxious or exhausted, and experiencing a burning sensation when having diarrhea. You may be very thirsty, but desire only small sips of liquid. Arsenicum can also be used for diarrhea caused by food poisoning, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center.

Chamomile

Chamomile is indicated if you are having abdominal pain and watery green diarrhea. You may find your face is flushed, and a warm blanket makes you feel worse. Truestar Health notes that you may be feeling irritable or angry, and your diarrhea may have a sulfurous odor. Chamomile is a remedy frequently used to soothe children.

Colocynthis

If impending diarrhea announces itself with abdominal cramps so severe you want to double over, the remedy colocynthis is indicated, according to Truestar Health. If pressure on the abdomen helps to relieve cramps, this remedy is a good choice.

Ipecac

Homeopathic ipecac can relieve nausea and vomiting. Ipecac is a good choice for constant nausea, especially if accompanied by pain around the navel. Ipecac is another remedy to consider if diarrhea has a green appearance. Homeopathic practitioner Vikas Sharma recommends ipecac when vomiting does not relieve the feelings of nausea. Do not confuse homeopathic ipecac with syrup of ipecac.

Podophyllum

If your abdomen gurgles and rumbles before you experience explosive watery diarrhea, yet you are not experiencing pain, podophyllum is the remedy of choice. You may have frequent urges to go to the bathroom and worse diarrhea in the morning. After bowel movements, you may feel exhausted.

Veratrum

When watery diarrhea arrives hand-in-hand with stomach cramps, vomiting and the chills, the University of Maryland Medical Center recommends the remedy veratrum album. Indications for this remedy include craving cold liquids and abdominal bloating.
