You have plenty of choices to remain active in San Francisco in June. Whether you are looking to outdo your best time in a competition, or find something to do with friends on a Sunday afternoon, you can find it in San Francisco. Beware the summer weather in San Francisco, though. On any given day throughout the summer, the famous San Francisco fog can roll in and take temperatures down with it. As Mark Twain once said, "The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco." Be sure to bring an extra layer if you plan to be out all day.

Races and Triathlons

Each June, you can find several races to run of varying lengths in San Francisco. The Dolphin South End Runners group sponsors an evening running series throughout the month of June in different locations around the city.
The San Francisco Italian Athletic Club sponsors the annual Statuto 8K run and 1-mile walk each June. If you are looking for a triathlon, you will find both the Escape from the Rock Triathlon and the Golden Gate Triathlon in June.

Cycling

June is LGBT Pride month in San Francisco. The San Francisco to Los Angeles AIDS Lifecycle is each June, as are weekly open events sponsored by Different Spokes, the San Francisco LGBT cycling organization.
The San Francisco Bicycle Coalition sponsors cycling events on Sundays throughout the month of June to advocate usage of bicycles in the city. If you don't want to join an event, the long days of June offer more time to ride through the Golden Gate Promenade or across the Golden Gate Bridge.

Swim and Surf

Northern California beaches are less famous than Southern California beaches for their waves, but in the summer months the water in the Pacific Ocean is warm enough for swimming and surfing.
The main beach in San Francisco is Ocean Beach, on the western end of Golden Gate Park with plenty of room for swimmers, surfers and sunbathers. If the big beach is not for you, try the smaller Baker Beach in the Presidio for a casual swim.

Night Skate the City

Inline and roller skaters convene ever Friday night at the Embarcadero in downtown San Francisco. The skaters follow a route along the waterfront piers in to the Marina District, and back in to the downtown area by going around the lower end of Nob Hill.
The route is broken up in sections, and all skaters stop and take breaks together. The California Outdoor Rollersports Association (CORA) sponsors the "Midnight Skate," which actually beings around 9 in the evening. Check with CORA for details on any given Friday night.

Hike Angel Island

Angel Island State Park sits in the middle of San Francisco Bay. The island once functioned as a "West Coast Ellis Island," processing immigrants in to the United States. Some historic buildings remain on the island.
Today, Angel Island serves as a weekend getaway for many San Franciscans looking to hike the island and take in the panoramic views of the San Francisco Bay Area.
To get to Angel Island, catch the public Ferry from the Ferry building. Bicycles are allowed on the ferry and the island. Other forms of transportation, such as skates and skateboards are not, and the state park closes at dusk.
