Learning how to skate on inline skates is different from learning tricks on these skates. To begin working on skating tricks, you first need to know how to skate well enough to get from one point to the next. Always wear safety equipment and follow safe inline skating practices. Some tricks use the same basic moves, but you do them in reverse, for instance, from the front criss-cross to the backward criss-cross.
Mute Grab
Skate quickly so you can get some height. Jump up and bend your legs, touching one skate with your hand. Upon landing, straighten your feet, leaning backward so you don't fall. Practice this trick around a soft, grassy spot until you get comfortable with the moves.
Backward Criss-Cross
This skating trick is the backward version of the forward criss-cross. For the forward criss-cross, alternate from crossed and uncrossed feet as you maneuver around cones. Rotate your leading hip forward so you can scissor your feet more easily. For the backward criss-cross, look back over the "leading side" shoulder so you can see the cones. Alternate between crossing and uncrossing your feet as you skate around the cones and keep your weight on the balls of your feet as you skate.
Barrel Roll
Skate on your left foot, rolling forward along a straight line. Move your right foot forward and transfer your weight to this foot.
Position your left foot backward behind your right foot. Both heels should be close to each other. Transfer your weight back to your left foot as you skate backward.
Put your right foot down, lifting your left foot. Switch to skating forward and put your left foot in front of your right foot.
Practice these moves in a straight line until you are familiar with the moves and you can coordinate your movements and skate in a circle.
Forward One Foot
Slalom on one skate through cones. Bend the leg that is not making contact with the ground, and tuck it behind you in a crossed position to help you maintain your balance. You can swing that leg in a pendulum movement perpendicular to the cones so you gain momentum, according to the Kiwidude website.
Backstab Criss-Cross
For the backstab criss-cross, perform the backward criss-cross as you alternate your leading foot. Because you need to be looking over one shoulder, your body is twisted into an unnatural position as you perform your crosses, according to the Kiwidude website.
