Beach volleyball is a high-paced and exciting game played usually in teams of two. A beach volleyball court is made up of a sand surface with a volleyball net dividing the length of the court. Beach volleyball training drills should work on the fundamental skills of the game such as serving, returning, passing and setting.

Pepper With Setter

This beach volleyball training drill is performed with three players and one ball. Player A begins the drill by setting the ball to player B, who spikes the ball to around waist height. Player C digs the spike back up into the air for player A, who sets the ball and the drill continues. Keep score by counting how many touches the three players can score as a team before the ball hits the ground. Progress the difficulty of the training drill by asking the setter to spike lower to around knee level, making the dig more difficult. Teach players to use movement and footwork to get in position before making contact with the ball. After 50 touches on the ball, switch up the setter, hitter and digging volleyball player.

Shooting Court Vision

This beach volleyball training drill is performed with a coach and two volleyball players. This drill develops the correct technique of shooting as well as the ability to see where to shoot during a game. Player A is the shooter and begins the drill at the baseline; player B takes up a position at the volleyball net to set the ball. The coach stands on the opposite side of the net and moves around to give the shooter a target. Player A tosses the ball to player B, who sets the ball at the net. Player A then shoots the ball over the volleyball net to where the coach is standing. The coach moves around the court to different areas, and player A must see and react to the position where she must shoot to. Teach player A to look where the coach is before watching the ball during the shot.

Jump Serve

The jump serve peach volleyball training drill helps you perfect the most common form of service in the game. Mark a line approximately 2/3 of the court away from the net, in front of the base line. Begin the drill by aiming to get the ball over the volleyball net and to land it on the other side of the court. Progress the drill by having a coach on the other side of the drill to aim your serve at. Increase the difficulty of the drill by delivering a service from the baseline and trying to score with two defensive players receiving the serve.
