The Blue Ridge Parkway is scenic road that stretches along 469 miles of North Carolina and Virginia countryside. The town of Fancy Gap is located in Carroll County, Virginia, near the North Carolina border along the Blue Ridge Parkway. Fancy Gap is located in the southern portion of the Appalachians and offers travelers and tourists many types of entertainment and hospitality.

Learn at Peaceful Heart Alpaca Farm and Store

This alpaca farm and store, owned in June 2010 by the Willis family, is open to the public. Learn about these fascinating animals and the products made from their luxurious fur. Store hours vary depending on the season.

Visit Treasure Potts Antique & Garden Shoppes

Treasure Potts Antique and Garden Shoppes is located at the entrance to the Blue Ridge Parkway in Fancy Gap. The antique store offers period furniture from the 1800s and 1900s, pottery, glassware, vintage clocks and lamps, as well as china and porcelain. The new garden shop features the work of local Blue Ridge artisan's including paintings, stained glass, wood and metal works, floral arrangements and pottery in addition to their selection of live plants and bird accessories.

Tour the Sidna Allen Historic Home

Sidna Allen was a notorious murderer from Carroll County, Virginia. A member of the Allen Gang, Allen was convicted of the Carroll County Courthouse murders of 1912. The state confiscated his home, which he designed and helped to build, following his conviction. Bert and Marlene Widener currently own the home, which is on the National Register of Historic Places. Tours of the home are available by appointment. Admission is $1 for children and $2 for adults.

Eat at Rap's Orchard Gap

Rap's Orchard Gap is a local restaurant with a bit of whimsy. Its motto is "Fifties-Style Pit Stop for Gas, Food and Fun." Rap's Orchard Gap offers deli-style food and a market. A covered porch has high-back rocking chairs for relaxing. Stop by on Saturdays for barbecue and live music.

Overnight in a Caboose

Grassy Creek Cabooses has a unique take on lodging. The owners converted several cabooses and a train depot into rental cabins. Located just off the Blue Ridge Parkway at mile post 193.5, each unit has satellite TV, a two-person jacuzzi, DVD/VCR and kitchen amenities such as a plates, utensils, a refrigerator, a toaster oven, a microwave and a coffeemaker. Each caboose also has a charcoal grill and an outdoor deck with rocking chairs. One caboose includes a cook top stove and oven in the kitchen.
