With its miles of shoreline, great museums, nature trails and rivers, Massachusetts is a great place to spend summertime with the kids. Families can spend hot days strolling the state's many beaches and forests or learning new things in one of several engaging museums.
Beaches
Massachusetts is home to several beaches with low surf and tide pools that are great for children and families. Yarmouth's Bay View beach has a grassy picnic area as well as a concession stand. Crane's Beach in Ipswich features numerous tide pools that are great for seeing small sea creatures.
Zoo
The Southwick Zoo is a great and educational way to spend the day with kids. Stroll through the parks many animal exhibits, bring your own lunch for a picnic in their courtyard or enjoy one of their many child-friendly amusement rides.
Strawberry Picking
Fruit picking is a great way to get exercise and have a delicious and health snack. Parlee Farms of Tyngsboro has eight varieties of berries available for picking in June and July. There's also a farmstand that sells fresh veggies and an animal petting zoo.
Canoeing
Massachusetts is home to many slow moving rivers that are great for family canoe trips. Foote Brothers Canoes of Ipswich offers instruction for first timers in addition to equipment rental and life jackets for children. Shuttle service to drop off points is also provide so you can canoe to your car.
Boston Museums
On extra hot days one of the Boston area's numerous museums is a great option for kids. From the New England Aquarium to the Boston Museum of Science, there's something for kids of all ages to enjoy. The Boston Children's Museum feature a wide variety of engaging exhibits, such as the New Balance climbing wall and Science Playground.
