Traveling through eastern Oregon will provide you with scenic views of the Blue Mountains and the Snake River. The air is crisp and clean and just right for the outdoor activity of your choice. Farewell Bend State Park
Located near the Oregon and Idaho border, this state park is a scenic destination near the Snake River and desert mountain ranges. You can enjoy fishing, boating and water-skiing along the Snake River.
If you enjoy land sports, there are volleyball and basketball courts available for you to use. Hiking trails are located around the park as well. The park offers 30 tent sites with rates during the months of May through September of $5 for the tent site as of 2010. Reservations are required.
Oasis Campground
Oasis Campground is located in the eastern Oregon region, just 9 miles from Huntington and close to the Farewell Bend State Park. You can breathe in the mountain fresh air and enjoy outdoor activities nearby such as swimming, fishing and boating along the Snake River or the nearby Alkali Gulch Reservoir.
You can enjoy plentiful catfish fishing, and there is a fish-cleaning station on the campground. Two new horseshoe pits have been added to the campground. Barbecue pits are available for use. Pets on a lease are allowed. Park fees range from $24 to $26 as of 2010, depending on the number of people in your party.
Catfish Junction R.V. Park & Campground
As attested by the park's name, catfish fishing is the No. 1 activity at this campground. Nestled along the Snake River through an area traversed by the Oregon Trail, this location is supreme for outdoor fun.
After a morning of fishing, you can enjoy such healthy activities as river tubing, swimming or relaxing along the banks of the river. The campground offers volleyball, basketball and horseshoes. If you enjoy hiking, you can trek the trails at the Farewell Bend State Park, located just minutes away from the campgrounds.
Rates for up to four campers are $20 per day as of 2010 and reservations are required. Additional fees apply additional campers.
Country Campgrounds
Located just 30 miles from Huntington, Oregon, Country Campgrounds sits along the Malheur River. The river runs south of the Blue Mountains and is a tributary to the Snake River. The Malheur Forest offers an array of scenic views you can enjoy while hiking or relaxing along the banks of the lakes located throughout the forest.
If you enjoy camping in the fall, consider this campground for its exciting Corn Maize of trails offered just down the road at Montgomery Farms, from the end of September through November; check specific dates, fees and availability. The Maize is a made up of three trails cut out through the corn fields, with one trail easy enough for small kids and the others more difficult.
The campground offers plenty of tent spaces and has showers and laundromat facilities. Call for reservations.
