For the person who wakes up in the morning with a puffy face or eyes, her body is trying to communicate something. These are symptoms telling her that her diet is lacking in some nutrients or that she is dehydrated. Lack of sufficient water causes her body to hold on to what water is present; a fatty diet can result in puffiness around the eyes and a puffy, swollen face, according to the Ayushveda website.

Cool Compress

Wet a washcloth in cold water and put it over your closed eyes for several minutes. The cold temperature acts to constrict swollen blood vessels, which helps to reduce the swelling around your eyes.
If you prefer, wet two cotton balls with cold water and place them over your closed eyes for several minutes. The water-soaked cotton balls do the same thing for your eyes as the wet washcloth.

Stay Hydrated

Drink a full glass of water every night before you go to bed. Even if you wake up having to go to the bathroom, your body is hydrated, and you'll notice your face isn't puffy when you wake up. When you are dehydrated, your body holds onto what water you have in your system, and one symptom is your puffy face, according to the Ayushveda website.
One way to remind yourself to drink water at night is to take a glass or bottle of water to your room with you every night and drink some before you turn the light out. When you get up, if your face is puffy, drink some water right away.
Avoid caffeinated drinks like sodas, coffee and tea. These can dehydrate you more, making your puffy face worse. Stick with water.

Cucumber Slices

Slice two pieces of cucumber straight from the refrigerator, recline on your bed and place the cucumber slices over your closed eyes for several moments. The cold emanating from the cucumber helps constrict the blood vessels around your eyes, making the puffiness will go down, according to the Eye Care Source and Online Family Doctor websites.

Cool Teabags

Wet two teabags in cold water and place these over your closed eyes. As with the cold washcloth and cucumber slices, the cool temperature of the teabags helps to constrict the blood vessels around your eyes to make the puffiness go down, according to the Online Family Doctor website.
