Stretch marks are not exclusive to pregnant or aging women, and have been known to afflict teenagers and men as well. The causes of stretch marks are many, but all are due to the fact that the skin is changing in tone and elasticity. Whether the cause is hormonal or due to changes in the skin from pregnancy or rapid weight loss or gain, you can make an at-home stretch mark cream to help prevent--and possibly reverse--the effects of stretch marks.
Step 1
Put 1/2 cup of distilled water and 1/2 cup of avocado oil in a blender. Blend to mix for 30 seconds.
Step 2
Count out 6 vitamin E capsules. Using small, sharp scissors, cut the tip off of one end so you can squeeze the citamin E oil into the avocado and water mix. Vitamin E, along with combating damage done to the skin by free radicals, helps the skin retain moisture.
Step 3
Cut the tip off 3 lecithin softgels and squeeze them into the blender mixture. According to a report from Vanderbilt University, lecithin helps make up skin cell membranes.
Step 4
Blend the mixture once again for one minute, then transfer to a glass jar or container that can be sealed. Use a spatula to get all of the lotion out of the blender and into the jar. Refrigerate the mixture for an hour before your first use, as the coolness of the lotion will help soothe the skin and relieve the redness often associated with stretch marks. Store the cream in the refrigerator between uses.
Tips and Warnings
- If you find the mixture to thin for your preference, use less distilled water in your next batch, or re-blend with more avocado oil.
- Do a patch test on a small area of your skin before applying the cream over a large area. This will help you determine if your skin is sensitive and will react to any ingredients in the recipe.
