Lymphoma is a cancer that affects the tissues of the lymphatic system. The two major classifications of lymphoma are Hodgkin lymphoma and non-Hodgkin lymphoma, with as many as 40 subtypes within the two. The person doesn't sweat a small amount in his sleep; instead this refers to a soaking sweat that usually requires a change of clothing. Although night sweats could indicate a few other illnesses, the night sweats that occur with lymphoma are usually accompanied by a low-grade fever.
Intermittent Fever and Chills
Chills are a feeling of being cold, and can be accompanied by muscle shaking. The chills that occur with lymphoma come and go when it isn't cold. Fever is an increase in the body temperature. A person who has lymphoma will experience a period of chills, then a period of fever. The fever that manifests is generally a low-grade fever.
Severe, Unexplained Itching
Lymphoma causes sudden itching to break out all over the body. This itching can become unbearable, and there is no other explanation for it. The itching can be intermittent, with periods of unbearable itching and periods of being calm. A cool bath helps to calm the itching to some degree.
Swollen Lymph Nodes
The lymph nodes are an important part of the body's defense system. When they swell, it indicates the presence of a foreign substance that needs to be eradicated. According to KidsHealth, symptoms can occur according to which lymph node is affected by cancer. For instance, if the lymph nodes in the chest are affected, coughing will be present.
Sudden, Rapid Weight Loss
The entire body as lymph nodes, including the abdomen. With some instances of lymphoma, the lymph nodes in the abdomen are affected. Medline Plus states that some patients could develop swelling or pain of the abdomen, which can cause stomach problems such as appetite loss, nausea and vomiting, as well as constipation or diarrhea. These symptoms can contribute to weight loss.
