If you color, perm, straighten, blow dry or use styling products in your hair, your hair may be dry, brittle and damaged. If your hair is the consistency of straw and breaks off when you brush it, your hair is severely damaged. Use at-home treatments to reverse some of the damage you have done to your hair and make it sleek, shiny and silky again.
Avocado
Avocado is rich in vitamins, proteins and fats that will help condition and moisturize the hair, says an article in "Cosmopolitan." To infuse moisture into dry, lifeless hair, mix an avocado, a banana, 3 tbsp. olive oil and an egg in a bowl until it is completely combined. Smooth the mixture onto the ends of the hair first, then work it up to the roots. There will be more than enough of the mixture for one treatment. If desired, save the rest of the mixture in the refrigerator for further treatments. Leave the avocado mixture on the hair for about 10 minutes, then rinse it out in the shower and shampoo as you normally would.
Mayonnaise
Mayonnaise doubles as an effective moisturizing conditioner for dry hair, says Steven Docherty, the senior art director at Vidal Sassoon Salon in New York City. Take a generous handful of mayonnaise straight from the jar and slather it onto dry hair. If desired, put a shower cap over your hair to prevent the mayonnaise from dripping. Leave the mayonnaise on the hair for at least 10 minutes, up to an hour. Rinse the mayonnaise out of your hair, then shampoo and condition as usual.
Egg White
Saturating your dry hair with an egg white mask will help add moisture, body and shine, says an article on beauty website, SheKnows.com. Mix an egg white with a fork until it is frothy and white. Mix the egg white with 1/4 cup organic yogurt and 1/4 cup mayonnaise. Smooth the mixture onto wet hair, then place a shower cap over the hair. If you don't have a shower cap, wrap the hair in a piece of plastic wrap. After 30 minutes, rinse the hair with cold water, then shampoo and condition the hair as usual.
