When it comes to the body, there are various assessments that are utilized to evaluate a person's health status. Some of these include body weight, body fat percentage, lean muscle mass and BMI, also known as body mass index. Body mass index is the amount of fat you have in relation to your height and weight. The way to determine this is by using a formula that can be in the English system or metric system. When determining BMI with centimeters, you use the metric formula.
Step 1
Find out your weight. Step on the scale first thing in the morning on an empty stomach and right after using the bathroom. Also wear only underwear or no clothes at all to make it as accurate as possible.
Step 2
Find your height. Stand with your back to a wall or stand on the inside of an open doorway. Use a pencil to place a tick mark on the wall at the top of your head. Measure the height in inches with a tape measure.
Step 3
Convert your numbers. Convert your weight in pounds to kilograms. Divide by 2.2 to do this. To get your height, multiply by 2.5 centimeters. Here is an example using a man that is 6-foot-4 and weighs 220 lbs.
Weight: 220/2.2 = 110kg
Height: 76 x 2.5 = 190cm
Step 4
Use the formula. Now input all the information into the metric system formula which is weight in kilograms divided by height in centimeters squared times 10,000. Using the same example of a man who is 6-foot-4 and weighs 220 lbs., the equation would look like this: 110/ (190 x 190) 10,000 = a BMI of 30.47.
